GE Vernova and TECO Partner to Enhance Taiwan’s Renewable Energy Infrastructure

by Krystal

In a significant development for Taiwan’s renewable energy landscape, GE Vernova and TECO, a global motor manufacturer, have commenced the installation of substations in central Taiwan’s Changhua County. The installation follows the closure of a deal between the two companies in early 2024.

Under the agreement, GE Vernova will provide the STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator) system and transformer solution, while TECO will oversee civil work and overall site operations.

Pin Chang, President of the Intelligence Energy Business Group at TECO, highlighted the company’s expertise in electromechanical technology and expressed confidence in bolstering Taiwan’s renewable power grid through collaboration with GE Vernova.

Shailesh Mishra, Regional Leader for GE Vernova’s Grid System Integration business in Asia Pacific, emphasized the company’s commitment to Taiwan’s renewable energy objectives. Mishra underscored the significance of deploying advanced STATCOM technology to drive positive change on a global scale.

STATCOM systems, categorized as Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS), play a crucial role in stabilizing power grids during periods of renewable energy intermittency. By regulating voltage and reactive power, STATCOMs ensure sustained reliability and efficiency, particularly in scenarios involving high renewable energy utilization.
