According to data from the customs department released on July 12, China’s natural gas imports, including via pipeline and LNG, amounted to 64.65 million tonnes in the first half of the year (H1), showing a 14.3% year-on-year rise. In June alone, imports reached 10.42 million tonnes, indicating continued growth in gas imports. The increase in natural gas imports is attributed to lower global LNG prices, which have increased the attractiveness of imports.

Earlier this year, the department reported that China imported 119.9 million tonnes of natural gas last year, marking a 9.9% increase compared to the previous year.
