EIA Reports Small Drop in Biodiesel Capacity

As of January 1, 2024, the U.S. had 56 biodiesel plants with a total production capacity of 2.09 billion gallons per year, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) on August 15.

The EIA reported a decrease in the number of biodiesel plants in the U.S., which fell by three from January 1, 2023, to January 1, 2024. During this period, the production capacity also declined by 4 million gallons per year.

The Midwest continues to hold more than 70% of the country’s biodiesel capacity. The Gulf Coast region accounts for 14%, the West Coast has 9%, and the East Coast holds 6% of the total capacity.
