San Diego County’s average price for a gallon of regular self-serve gasoline dipped slightly by six-tenths of a cent on Saturday, landing at $4.644. According to data from AAA and the Oil Price Information Service, this price marks a decrease of 3.3 cents compared to both one week and one month ago, and a significant drop of $1.565 from the same time last year.
Since hitting the record high of $6.435 on October 5, 2022, the average price in San Diego County has fallen by $1.791. Nationally, the average gas price declined by three-tenths of a cent, reaching $3.22. Although the national average is slightly higher than it was a week ago, it is 14.1 cents lower than last month and down by 61.5 cents compared to last year. Since peaking at $5.016 on June 14, 2022, the national average has now fallen by $1.796.
AAA’s national public relations manager, Andrew Gross, commented on the potential impact of Hurricane Helene. “While gasoline demand might be affected by the storm, the supply side won’t feel much of an impact,” Gross explained. The hurricane is steering clear of vital oil production and refining areas in the Gulf, but it could still disrupt fuel demand temporarily due to power outages, flooding, and infrastructure damage in the Southeast. However, any noticeable effect on the national average price is expected to be short-lived.
