Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has stressed that global oil prices would have risen significantly if India had not continued to import oil from Russia. He explained that these imports have been crucial in stabilizing global prices, preventing them from increasing even more. Puri highlighted that India’s decision to buy Russian oil helped ease the pressure on global oil markets and reduce the impact of rising prices.
Despite criticism from some countries about India’s ongoing energy purchases from Russia, Puri pointed out that they overlook the positive effect India’s actions have had on global oil stability.
“Many focus on India’s oil purchases from Russia, but they don’t realize that without these imports, global oil prices would have soared,” Puri said in a social media post.
The minister emphasized that India’s strategy has been key to balancing energy affordability, availability, and sustainability—challenges that many other nations continue to face.
Puri also noted that while other countries struggle with energy shortages and higher costs, India has managed to meet its energy needs without overburdening its citizens. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for guiding the country’s energy policy. The minister assured that India will keep prioritizing the well-being of its people and economy by securing energy from the most affordable sources.
India’s approach, according to Puri, demonstrates its commitment to providing affordable and sustainable energy, even amid global instability and fluctuating oil prices. His remarks come as many nations continue to face difficulties in securing reliable energy supplies.
