US LNG Exports Set to Reach 9-Month Peak

by Krystal

The seven largest LNG export plants in the United States are receiving high volumes of gas, according to new data from LSEG released on Thursday. Gas flows are expected to hit a nine-month high.

The data shows that U.S. LNG feedgas is projected to increase from 14 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) on Wednesday to 14.4 bcfd on Thursday.

Cheniere’s Sabine Pass plant in Louisiana, the largest LNG export facility in the U.S., is set to receive 4.9 bcfd of gas today, marking a three-week high. Gas flows could continue to rise, as the new Plaquemines facility has been drawing gas in test mode for the past two months. According to LSEG data, federal regulators granted Venture Global LNG approval to begin testing its LNG equipment at Plaquemines in early September. The first phase of the plant is expected to begin exports later this year, with full operations aiming for 10 million tons per annum, making it the second-largest LNG facility in the U.S., behind Sabine Pass.

The U.S. LNG export industry has seen a surge in stock prices following Donald Trump’s election victory, with many viewing the sector as a key beneficiary of a potential trade deal between the U.S. and the European Union.

Trump has long criticized the U.S. trade deficit with the EU and has proposed imposing tariffs on European imports. In response, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen suggested the EU could increase its imports of U.S. LNG.

“We still get a whole lot of LNG from Russia. Why not replace it with American LNG, which is cheaper and could help lower our energy prices?” von der Leyen said earlier this month.
