Gas prices are dropping nationwide ahead of Thanksgiving, and Sheetz is offering an even steeper discount for travelers.
The convenience store chain, which operates more than 750 locations in the Mid-Atlantic region, announced a 40-cent-per-gallon price cut for its Unleaded 88 fuel. The discount starts Tuesday, Nov. 19, and will run through Nov. 30.
The special pricing applies only to the 505 Sheetz locations that sell Unleaded 88, a fuel blend containing 15% ethanol and 85% gasoline. Sheetz noted that pricing may vary in Maryland due to local laws. Customers can use the Sheetz mobile app or website to find the nearest location offering Unleaded 88.
According to GasBuddy, a fuel-saving app, 73% of Americans plan to take a road trip during Thanksgiving this year. This is a significant increase from last year’s 41%, based on a survey of 343 respondents conducted from Nov. 5 to Nov. 8.
“This year’s Thanksgiving travel is returning to pre-pandemic levels,” said Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis. In 2019, 65% of Americans drove to Thanksgiving gatherings, a figure now surpassed by this year’s 73%.
Lower gas prices are contributing to the surge in road trips. The national average gas price stands at approximately $2.98 per gallon, slightly below last week’s $3.02 average.
“Americans are eager to hit the road and visit loved ones this Thanksgiving,” De Haan said. “With gas prices now below $3 in more than half of U.S. states, driving offers the flexibility and convenience many travelers prefer.”
Data from AAA shows the average price for regular unleaded gas on Tuesday was $3.063 per gallon. This marks a drop from $3.183 a month ago and $3.313 at the same time last year.
