Expert Insights
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, explained the recent fluctuations:
“Some states experienced price jumps or ‘cycling’ last week, where prices rise sharply after falling below a station’s replacement cost. This caused the national average to see little overall change. However, states that saw large increases may now experience significant declines, possibly driving the national average below $3 per gallon just in time for Thanksgiving.”
GasBuddy’s real-time updates from nearly 150,000 stations make it a trusted source for tracking gas prices nationwide. With 288 daily updates from diverse sources, it remains the most comprehensive tool for consumers.
Outlook
As Thanksgiving approaches, 28 states already report gas prices below $3 per gallon, paving the way for further potential declines across the country.
