In a joint effort between the Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps North, significant strides have been made to provide essential facilities in the border regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, focusing particularly on the Elum Valley of Buner.
With the backing of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, a noteworthy initiative has been implemented with the installation of three hydroelectric turbines in the Elum Valley.
This strategic move has resulted in the establishment of a continuous power supply to approximately 1500 homes in the region, ending a longstanding 70-year period without electricity for the local residents.
Specifically, a 150-kilowatt hydroelectric turbine has been erected to provide electricity to 500 homes in Ellum Kalay and Karapa Kalay. Simultaneously, a 200-kilowatt hydroelectric turbine is now operational, supplying electricity to 500 homes in Jobra Kalay and Sheen Dhand. Furthermore, a 250-kilowatt hydroelectric turbine in Elum is actively providing electricity to 500 homes in Char Kalay.
Overcoming the inherent challenges of the remote and demanding nature of these areas, the Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps North have successfully executed various tasks. This includes the installation of turbines, transformers, and poles for pedestrian transmission lines, laying transmission lines in streams, and utilizing winching methods to transfer heavy pipes.
The local population has expressed deep appreciation for these efforts, acknowledging the transformative impact on their daily lives as they finally gain access to a consistent and reliable source of electricity.
