Having ascended to the position of Amir on September 29, 2020, His Highness Sheikh Nawaf’s tenure coincided with a series of challenges for the global oil industry, exacerbated by the profound impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout these trials, his astute leadership and sagacious counsel played a pivotal role in guiding Kuwait and the Organization through these turbulent times. Over the span of six decades, His Highness consistently advocated for equitable and inclusive resolutions to both regional and international issues.
HE Haitham Al Ghais, OPEC Secretary General, expressed deep sorrow over the passing, stating, “It is with great sadness and sorrow that we, at OPEC, have learned of the passing of HH Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Amir of the State of Kuwait. His Highness was a distinguished leader that graciously provided guidance and support to the Organization, the Declaration of Cooperation, and the global oil market.”
