J&T Berjaya Alam Murni Unveils Cutting-Edge Waste-to-Energy Plant in Bukit Tagar Enviro Park

KUALA LUMPUR: J&T Berjaya Alam Murni Sdn Bhd (JBAM) has inaugurated its advanced waste-to-energy (SWTE) plant at Bukit Tagar Enviro Park (BTEP), marking a significant stride in the conversion of waste into valuable resources and renewable energy.

Datuk Arham Abdul Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), highlighted the pivotal role of the SWTE facility within the Sustainable Scheduled Waste Treatment Centre (SSWTC). He emphasized its adherence to stringent environmental standards set by the Department of Environment (DOE) Malaysia, underscoring its contribution to comprehensive waste management amidst the country’s industrial expansion.

“This initiative addresses the pressing need for holistic waste management solutions driven by Malaysia’s industrial growth. Waste management remains a critical concern, and the Malaysian Government is actively enhancing the infrastructure to tackle environmental challenges and foster sustainable waste practices,” stated Datuk Arham Abdul Rahman.

JBAM, a joint venture between Berjaya Enviro, J&T Recycling Corporation of Japan, and JFE Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd, spearheads the development and management of the SSWTC facility. This facility, approved by the Department of Environment, is equipped to receive, treat, and dispose of 76 out of the 77 Scheduled Waste Codes, encompassing clinical, toxic, and hazardous waste from medical facilities.

Datuk Arham Abdul Rahman commended JBAM for its corporate responsibility efforts, setting a standard for local businesses to address the scarcity of waste management facilities.

Koh Chee Yong, Managing Director of JBAM, hailed the launch as a significant milestone resulting from the strategic collaboration between Berjaya Enviro Holding, J&T Recycling Corporation, and JFE Engineering (M). He expressed gratitude to government authorities, DOE Malaysia, MIDA, MGTC, Ambank, and industrial and private sector customers for their unwavering support.

“The SWTE plant represents our commitment to sustainable waste management and marks a significant step towards effectively setting the benchmark for sustainable waste management,” stated Koh Chee Yong.

He further elaborated on the SWTE plant’s features, highlighting its thermal treatment capabilities with a heat energy recovery system to boost the recycling rate of scheduled waste. Koh Chee Yong also emphasized the creation of 250 direct jobs to support the plant’s management, operation, and maintenance.

BTEP serves as an integrated treatment center for municipal solid waste and scheduled waste in Malaysia, reflecting Berjaya Enviro Group’s dedication to advancing the circular economy. The facility also encompasses the 12 MW landfill gas to renewable energy plant, aligning with the nation’s sustainability agenda and green technology development goals.

“These initiatives align with our nation’s sustainability agenda and green technology development goals. Importantly, these projects have received significant support from MIDA through tax incentives and facilitation of collaborations with various government agencies,” concluded Koh Chee Yong.
