The report highlighted that wind farms supplied 40% of Ireland’s power in the first quarter of 2024. Although March marked a record month, it ranked as the seventh-best month overall for wind power production.

The highest wind power generation on record occurred in February 2022, with 1,868 GWh of electricity.

Justin Moran, Director of External Affairs at Wind Energy Ireland, emphasized the environmental and economic benefits of wind energy. He underscored that wind farms aid in reducing carbon emissions, lowering wholesale electricity prices, and bolstering clean energy supply for homes, businesses, and communities.

Moran advocated for the accelerated development of wind farms to alleviate electricity costs and support consumers facing financial difficulties. He expressed hope for the passage of the Planning and Development Bill to streamline planning processes.

Highlighting the pivotal role of wind farms, particularly in Kerry, Moran emphasized their significant contribution to carbon emission reduction and economic opportunities in rural areas.

He concluded by envisioning a future where renewable energy development fosters energy independence, improves living conditions, and promotes environmental sustainability.
