EDF Renewables UK, ESB, and Reventus Power have announced a partnership, with each entity holding a 33.33% share, to drive the development of a floating offshore wind farm in the Celtic Sea. The collaboration underscores their commitment to advancing renewable energy initiatives and positions them to participate in The Crown Estate’s Leasing Round 5.
While DP Energy remains a development partner, leveraging local presence and engagement, the Gwynt Glas project team has been actively involved in the Celtic Sea region, making strides in maximizing opportunities. This includes hosting supply chain events and implementing the award-winning Destination Renewables program to inspire the future workforce.
EDF brings its expertise in building large-scale infrastructure projects, ensuring the maximization of local benefits. A crucial aspect of the project is its connection to the electricity grid, enabling the distribution of green energy to homes and businesses across the UK. Gwynt Glas has secured a grid connection agreement of 300 MW and 1 GW with National Grid.
Jim Dollard, Executive Director of Generation Trading at ESB, emphasized the significance of offshore wind in achieving ESB’s Net Zero by 2040 target. He highlighted the potential of floating offshore wind to make a substantial impact, not only in the UK but also in Ireland.
Matthieu Hue, CEO of EDF Renewables UK, expressed delight in welcoming ESB and Reventus Power as new joint venture partners. He cited existing collaborations with ESB on projects such as Neart na Gaoithe and Stornoway, along with a close relationship with Reventus Power on Provence Grand Large.
Michael van der Heijden, CEO of Reventus Power, echoed the sentiments of collaboration, emphasizing their deep understanding of the floating offshore wind market. He expressed eagerness to participate in the forthcoming UK Round 5 Leasing Round alongside their esteemed partners.
