Arrow Electronics, alongside eight other companies including Autodesk and Brooks Running, has pledged support for the refurbishment of a wind farm in Texas facing decommissioning.
The collaborative effort involves the purchase of renewable energy certificates (RECs) from the Ocotillo Windpower facility over the next five to ten years. These certificates will fund crucial upgrades necessary to maintain the wind farm’s operations.
RECs are awarded for each megawatt-hour of electricity generated from renewable sources and delivered to the grid. Through the newly established energy marketplace Ever.green, Arrow and its partners will procure these RECs to offset their Scope 2 emissions. Arrow aims to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 10% across all its locations and fleet by the end of 2025.

Located in Big Spring, Texas, the Ocotillo wind farm boasts a capacity of 55 megawatts and commenced commercial operations in 2008. Clearway Energy Group acquired the facility in 2020 and recently completed a partial repower, modernizing aging equipment to ensure continued operation for the next decade.
The wind farm currently generates enough energy to power 19,000 homes annually and is expected to prevent tens of thousands of carbon emissions each year.
