According to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) on April 24, fuel ethanol production in the United States experienced a 3% decrease for the week ending April 19. This decline marks a notable shift, with stocks of fuel ethanol also showing a 1% decrease, while exports plummeted by 23%.
For the week ending April 19, fuel ethanol production averaged 954,000 barrels per day, reflecting a drop of 29,000 barrels per day compared to the previous week’s production level of 983,000 barrels per day. This marks the lowest level of production reported since mid-January. Moreover, in comparison to the corresponding week of the previous year, production for the week ending April 19 saw a decrease of 13,000 barrels per day.
In terms of fuel ethanol stocks, data for the week ending April 19 indicated a decline to 25.733 million barrels, down by 347,000 barrels from the previous week’s reported stocks of 26.08 million barrels. However, when compared to the same week of the previous year, stocks for the week ending April 19 showed an increase of 1.427 million barrels.
Furthermore, fuel ethanol exports recorded an average of 134,000 barrels per day for the week ending April 19, indicating a notable decrease of 41,000 barrels per day from the 175,000 barrels per day of exports reported for the previous week. It’s worth noting that data on weekly ethanol exports for the corresponding week of 2023 is unavailable, as the EIA commenced reporting weekly data on fuel ethanol exports in June 2023. Additionally, no fuel ethanol imports were reported for the week ending April 19.
