Green Energy Park (GEP), established in 2023, has announced its mission to produce renewable hydrogen in economically competitive locations, initially targeting the Northeast region of Brazil. The franchise aims to supply green fuels to industry and transport sectors, facilitating the decarbonization of hard-to-abate segments of the economy.
GEP’s inaugural hydrogen production facility, Green Energy Park Piaui, located in Brazil, is slated to achieve a capacity of 10.8 GW of electrolyzer when fully operational.
Emphasizing collaboration with off-takers globally, GEP is pioneering a vertically integrated hydrogen supply chain model. Bart Biebuyck, CEO of GEP, stressed the pressing need for action against climate change, citing record-high emissions from fossil fuels in 2023. He underscored the urgency of achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050, calling for the installation of 6,000 gigawatts of electrolyzer capacity worldwide.
Biebuyck reiterated GEP’s commitment to producing renewable hydrogen at scale, combining advanced production technologies and innovative engineering solutions. He highlighted Piaui, Brazil, as a pivotal location for the hydrogen revolution, expressing pride in the partnership with the state government.
Victor Hugo Almeida, CEO of Investe Piaui, lauded the natural resource advantages of Piaui for green hydrogen production. He emphasized the state government’s dedication to leveraging these resources for societal and environmental benefits, envisioning a future of green industrialization and job creation.
Almeida expressed gratitude for GEP’s decision to establish its groundbreaking hydrogen production facility in Piaui, asserting strong government support for the project’s success.
Green Energy Park’s ambitious initiative in Brazil’s Northeast signals a significant stride towards a greener energy future, with potential implications for global hydrogen production and decarbonization efforts.
