Gas prices are dropping in Delaware and the surrounding region as the summer travel season winds down.
As of Monday, AAA Mid-Atlantic reports that the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Delaware is $3.19. This marks a 10-cent decrease from the previous week and a 47-cent drop from a year ago. Delaware continues to have some of the lowest gas prices in the area.
In the Philadelphia five-county region, the average price for a gallon of gas is $3.41, down by a penny from last week. South Jersey’s gas prices are holding steady at around $3.20 per gallon.
On the national level, gas prices have decreased by about 6 cents this week, averaging $3.35 per gallon.
The decline in prices is partly due to lower oil prices. Last week, oil prices fell by about $2, settling at just under $75 per barrel. This drop is attributed to mild demand and a steady supply, according to AAA.
