Iowa DNR Looks into Diesel Fuel Spill Near Mapleton, IA

MAPLETON, Iowa (KTIV) – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is investigating a diesel fuel spill into a creek in Monona County.

The incident occurred on Sunday northwest of Mapleton. The Monona County Sheriff’s Office reported that a pickup truck crashed into Pumpkin Run, a tributary, while carrying a 50-gallon drum of red diesel fuel. Some of the diesel spilled into the tributary and nearby Willow Creek.

DNR personnel have deployed booms in Willow Creek to contain the spill. No fuel or odors were detected downstream where Willow Creek meets Simmons Creek, and no dead fish were found along the creek’s path.

The DNR reported that the truck driver is cooperating with the cleanup efforts.
