On Monday, the average price for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County rose by four-tenths of a cent, reaching $4.686. This increase ended a three-year streak of setting a record high for Labor Day.
The current average price is up 2.2 cents from a week ago. However, it is 4.1 cents lower than a month ago and 69.1 cents cheaper than a year ago, according to data from AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. Since peaking at a record $6.435 on October 5, 2022, the price has dropped by $1.749.
A year ago on Labor Day, the average price was $5.382, surpassing the 2022 holiday record of $5.251.
Meanwhile, the national average price for gasoline fell two-tenths of a cent to $3.331. This marks the 17th decrease in the past 19 days. The national average is down 2 cents from last week, 15 cents from a month ago, and 48.4 cents from a year ago. It has decreased by $1.685 since reaching a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
Andrew Gross, an AAA national public relations manager, noted, “September brings the arrival of cheaper winter-blend gasoline, which often helps to ease pressure on pump prices.”
