Filling up your car can be frustrating, but Tacoma drivers have some good news. In the last week, average gas prices in Tacoma dropped by 5.8 cents, according to a survey of 271 local stations conducted by GasBuddy. As of September 23, the average price per gallon in Tacoma was $3.95. This price is also down about 14.3 cents per gallon compared to a month ago and nearly a dollar lower than a year ago.
Here are some recent gas price highlights from GasBuddy:
Tacoma’s cheapest station is charging $3.35 per gallon.
The most expensive station in the city is at $4.49 per gallon.
Washington’s lowest gas price is $3.13 per gallon, while the highest is $5.59 per gallon.
According to AAA, Washington ranks as the third most expensive state for average gas prices in the nation, following California and Hawaii.
Despite the decline in Tacoma, gas prices rose nationally by 1.2 cents, averaging $3.16 per gallon. In Seattle, prices are higher, with an average of $4.29 per gallon.
The recent drop in prices comes after the U.S. Federal Reserve unexpectedly cut interest rates by half a percent, leading to a spike in oil prices, said Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis. While some states are experiencing rising gas prices, others are seeing declines. De Haan noted that most price increases are likely temporary.
“While the future looks good for gas prices to continue trending lower for most in the weeks ahead, oil’s jump may mute the downside potential just a bit — for now,” he added.
