SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A gas leak prompted evacuations for hundreds of residents in a San Francisco neighborhood on Tuesday. Fortunately, the evacuation order has since been lifted.
The San Francisco Fire Department described the evacuations as a precaution. They confirmed there is currently no threat to the public. Residents living south of Paul Avenue, including those on Crane Street, Exeter Street, and Gould Street, were notified by SFFD and police officers going door-to-door. An air-conditioned Muni bus was provided for those who needed to evacuate.
The issue began at 10:30 a.m. when a construction crew accidentally damaged a gas line on Paul Avenue. PG&E crews managed to stop the gas leak by 5:10 p.m.
Repair work is now underway, affecting service for 700 PG&E natural gas customers in the area.
