WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) — AAA Texas reports that the average gas price for regular unleaded fuel in the state is currently $2.69 per gallon. This marks a one-cent increase from last week, but it’s still 18 cents lower than the price at the same time last year.
Among major Texas cities, El Paso has the highest average gas prices at $2.96 per gallon. In contrast, drivers in Abilene are paying the lowest at $2.50 per gallon.
Nationally, the average price for regular unleaded fuel is $3.11 per gallon, which is two cents lower than last week and 30 cents lower than this time last year.
The Energy Information Administration reports that gasoline supplies have risen week-to-week, while fuel demand has decreased. The price of crude oil, which is the primary component in gasoline, is down by seven percent compared to last year. As of the latest data, West Texas Intermediate crude is priced at $69 per barrel.
