Egg Group has acquired the project rights to a solar farm in Gloucestershire from BayWa r.e., a leading global renewable energy company.
The Rag Lane solar farm, located near Bristol, marks the first acquisition by Egg Power Holdings, the clean energy investment arm of Egg Group. This group is part of Liberty Global’s energy transition platform and also includes Egg Solutions, which provides clean energy solutions such as solar panels and battery storage to UK homes and businesses, and Believ, which focuses on electric vehicle charging points.
The Rag Lane solar farm is set to begin construction in early 2025 and will be operational by the fourth quarter of 2025. Once completed, it will produce 50 megawatts of renewable energy annually, enough to power around 15,000 homes. The farm will supply roughly five percent of Liberty Global’s power demand in the UK, helping to lower both energy costs and carbon emissions.
Ilesh Patel, Lead of Egg Power Holdings, expressed excitement about the deal: “We are thrilled to acquire the project rights to Rag Lane solar farm from BayWa r.e. This acquisition is a key step for Egg Power as we aim to develop and operate renewable energy projects that provide affordable clean energy. Rag Lane is an important milestone in our commitment to a greener future, and we look forward to its positive impact on our energy footprint, serving our customers and supporting our journey toward net-zero emissions. We appreciate BayWa r.e.’s work in developing the project.”
Christine McGregor, Managing Director at BayWa r.e. UK, also shared her enthusiasm: “We are pleased to finalize this agreement with Liberty Global, a partner that shares our vision for sustainable clean energy. BayWa r.e. has always supported the UK government’s green energy goals and the transition away from fossil fuels. This milestone highlights our team’s ability to deliver impactful solar projects.”
Developed by BayWa r.e. in partnership with Grüne Energien Solar (GE), the Rag Lane solar farm will continue to support local agriculture, allowing sheep grazing on the land. The project will also enhance biodiversity and ecological connectivity, while offering financial benefits to nearby communities.
