Energy aid for gas prices could total around €280 million under a universal subsidy scheme, Economy Minister Denisa Sakova (Voice-SD) revealed during a discussion on TA3’s ‘V politike’ (In Politics) on Sunday. Sakova emphasized that these figures are preliminary and will be updated once the gas prices are published by the Office for the Regulation of Network Industries (URSO) on Monday, December 2.
“We will have precise figures on the form of assistance, whether it will be targeted or universal, once URSO’s final price list is approved,” Sakova explained. She added that the coalition council will ultimately decide on the energy aid plan for households.
The proposed universal subsidy model has faced criticism, notably from Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) MP Marian Viskupic. In response, Sakova noted that she has prepared both universal and targeted energy assistance schemes. However, she acknowledged that providing aid to specific vulnerable households presents a number of challenges.
