South African motorists are facing significant fuel price hikes for the fourth consecutive month in February.
The Central Energy Fund’s latest unaudited data reveals that rising international oil prices and the rand’s weakness against the dollar will drive up fuel costs at local pumps, effective February 5.
As of January 13, the data indicated increases of 75c per liter for 95 unleaded petrol, 81c per liter for 93 unleaded petrol, 90c per liter for high-sulphur 0.05% diesel, and 88c per liter for low-sulphur 0.005% diesel. Illuminating paraffin is also expected to rise by 73c per liter.
Fuel prices are typically adjusted on the first Wednesday of each month. Following price increases of between 8c and 12c per liter on January 1, the current prices are:
INLAND:
95 unleaded petrol: R21.59
93 unleaded petrol: R21.34
Diesel 0.05%: R19.29
Diesel 0.005%: R19.44
COAST:
95 unleaded petrol: R20.80
93 unleaded petrol: R20.55
Diesel 0.05%: R18.50
Diesel 0.005%: R18.68
