New Delhi: India’s petroleum consumption demonstrated consistent growth in December 2024. According to the latest data from the PPAC Flash Report, petrol consumption increased by 10.56% year-on-year, reaching 3,305 thousand metric tonnes (TMT). Diesel demand also saw a rise of 5.85%, totaling 8,048 TMT during the same period.
Aviation turbine fuel (ATF) usage grew by 8.05%, reaching 778 TMT, reflecting a rebound in air traffic and travel demand. Similarly, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), which includes propane and butane, saw a 5.27% increase, totaling 2,880 TMT in December 2024.
The report also highlighted the growth in petroleum consumption compared to pre-pandemic levels. Petrol consumption showed a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 5.97% when compared to December 2019. Diesel consumption grew at a CAGR of 1.73%, while ATF and LPG saw growth rates of 1.30% and 4.14%, respectively, over the same period.
