Neste Provides Renewable Diesel to BMW for Fueling New Vehicles in Germany

by Krystal

Neste’s renewable diesel will be used at BMW’s production plants in Munich, Dingolfing, Leipzig, and Regensburg. This transition to HVO100 (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) will impact more than half of BMW’s global diesel vehicle production. Deliveries of the fuel to the plants have already started.

BMW has recently expanded its approval of renewable diesel to cover a broader range of its vehicle models. While renewable diesel is compatible with all diesel engines, BMW’s official approval adds extra confidence for drivers, particularly regarding liability concerns.

Joerg Huebeler, Head of Market Development EU & APAC at Neste, expressed appreciation for the partnership: “We are grateful for BMW’s trust and excited about this collaboration. Renewable diesel is key to the global shift toward sustainable mobility. We also thank our partner, Biofuel Express, for helping deliver the fuel to BMW.”

This is not the first partnership between BMW and Neste. In 2023, BMW conducted a one-year test of renewable diesel in its logistics operations near the Munich plant, with Neste supplying the fuel. The new steps align with a change in German law set for spring 2024, which allows the unrestricted sale of renewable diesel in Germany.

Neste’s renewable diesel is made entirely from renewable raw materials, mainly waste and residue oils and fats. Using this fuel can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% over its lifecycle compared to conventional diesel.
