ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KAIT) – Higher crude oil prices might soon drive up gas prices in Arkansas.
According to AAA, average gas prices in the state have increased by one cent this week, reaching $2.72 per gallon for regular unleaded. In Jonesboro, however, prices have decreased by three cents, from $2.73 to $2.70 per gallon. The national average stands at $3.10.
While the latest report from the Energy Information Administration shows a decrease in gasoline demand and an increase in supplies, AAA is closely monitoring the rise in crude oil prices.
“West Texas Intermediate crude has risen by $6 per barrel since the beginning of the year,” AAA’s Thursday news release said. “This increase in crude oil prices could lead to higher gas prices in Arkansas as we move into the second half of January.”
