Shell Energy Italia has signed a 10-year agreement with Italian calcium lime producer Unicalce to supply renewable power to its operations. Under the contract, Shell will deliver 120 GWh of green electricity to Unicalce, sourced from a photovoltaic (PV) farm in southern Italy’s Puglia region.
Unicalce expressed that this partnership is an important step toward securing a stable and sustainable energy supply for its plants. The company also emphasized its ongoing commitment to decarbonization.
While the pricing details of the deal and the specific name of the contracted project were not disclosed, the agreement highlights the growing demand for renewable energy solutions in industrial operations.
In May, Shell inaugurated its first solar facility in Italy, a 20-MW PV park located in Puglia. The Zamboni plant, situated in the Taranto province, is expected to generate over 30 GWh annually, enough to power 14,000 homes. A portion of this output is already contracted by energy technology company Baker Hughes.
