by Krystal

NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — Gas prices in North Dakota have risen by about 10 cents per gallon in the past month, though they remain lower than last year. According to AAA data, the current average gas price in the state is $2.98 per gallon, reflecting a 0.6% increase from last week and a 4.1% rise from the same time last year.

Nationally, the average gas price stands at $3.16 per gallon. States in the South report the lowest prices, with Mississippi leading at $2.69 per gallon. On the other hand, California has the highest average at $4.80 per gallon.

Earlier this month, President Trump agreed to pause the 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican imports for 30 days. However, concerns about the economic impact of potential tariffs continue. GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan warns that if tariffs are implemented, they could significantly affect gas prices, especially in the Northeast, Great Lakes, Midwest, and Rocky Mountain regions.

“Trump’s trade actions have already led to retaliatory tariffs, increasing tensions,” De Haan stated. “While tariffs on Canadian energy could raise fuel prices, a prolonged trade war might hurt global economies, which could lower demand and offset some of the price increases.”
