Russia has decided to extend its gasoline export ban for another six months, starting in March, while allowing producers to continue exporting. This was reported by the state-run RIA news agency on Thursday, citing an unnamed source.
Currently, major oil companies are permitted to export gasoline, but traders and resellers are prohibited from doing so. This measure was first introduced in March of last year to tackle rising wholesale fuel prices and prevent a potential fuel shortage in Russia.
The ban does not apply to countries in the Moscow-led Eurasian Economic Union, which includes five former Soviet states, nor to countries like Mongolia with which Russia has fuel supply agreements.
Key importers of Russian gasoline include Nigeria, Libya, Tunisia, and the United Arab Emirates.
