Ahead of the House of Assembly’s return on Monday, March 3, 2025, the provincial government announced it will extend the tax reduction on gasoline and diesel by seven cents per litre for the next year, through March 31, 2026.
This extension will keep pump prices lower by 8.05 cents per litre, including HST, according to a news release.
Finance Minister Siobhan Coady explained that the tax reduction is part of a broader set of affordability measures aimed at supporting residents, families, and businesses.
In addition to the gasoline tax cut, Coady noted that the government will continue its 50 percent reduction in passenger vehicle registration fees, as well as the home heating supplement program.
“The gasoline tax reduction is just one of the many ways we are helping residents,” Coady said.
Meanwhile, Coady confirmed that her department is preparing for the spring budget, but did not specify a date for its release.
