Digitization continues to shape industries worldwide, and two recent deals in the Middle East highlight this trend in natural gas supply and port management.
In Oman, the Integrated Gas Company (IGC), the nation’s sole natural gas supplier, has launched its new Gas Applications Portal. This digital platform aims to simplify how industries apply for and manage their natural gas needs.
The new portal offers several features that improve the process. Users can submit multiple applications under one account, track application statuses in real time, and communicate directly with IGC representatives for support. The platform also allows users to manage multiple projects from a centralized dashboard, and it is mobile-friendly.
The portal goes beyond standard applications by supporting spot sales and short-term gas supply auctions. This speeds up the processing of large industrial orders. It also aligns with Oman’s broader efforts to become a leading investment hub. Investors can submit gas supply applications even while their projects are in the permitting stage, and detailed information on gas sales agreements is readily available on the platform.
Meanwhile, in Abu Dhabi, AD Ports Group, which manages and develops the emirate’s ports and infrastructure, has signed a strategic partnership with the Indra Group. This agreement involves Maqta Technologies, the digital arm of AD Ports, and Indra Group, a company known for driving technological advancements.
The collaboration focuses on digital solutions for ports, logistics, and trade across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Specifically, Maqta Technologies and Indra Group will develop smart port solutions, including Port Community Systems (PCS). PCS platforms enable smooth information exchange among various stakeholders in a port.
The partnership also plans to implement Single Window systems—centralized digital platforms where all information for ship clearance, such as arrival and departure details, is submitted electronically. The companies aim to enhance logistics efficiency, sustainability, and smart mobility solutions, including managing port terminals, border systems, and other key components of the logistics chain.
