A road in Morrinsville was temporarily closed this morning after a vehicle struck a gas main.
According to a Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson, firefighters were called to the scene on Moorhouse Street around 8:11 a.m. The road was closed between Anderson and Thames streets as crews worked to manage the situation. The local gas authority was notified.
A police spokeswoman confirmed that emergency services responded to the crash, but no injuries were reported.
By 11 a.m., Fire and Emergency announced that the road had reopened.
A staff member at Ezekiel Trust Community Kindergarten on Moorhouse Street mentioned the facility was closed for the day. In contrast, Central Kids Kindergarten on the same street continued its operations as usual, since it does not rely on gas.
A worker at the Redoubt Bar and Eatery on Thames Street reported seeing an ambulance, police car, and fire truck when driving past the scene on her way to work. She didn’t think anyone had been seriously injured but noted that people were rushing to help.
She was uncertain whether the incident affected the eatery and mentioned that staff had not been informed about the situation.
