DUBAI, April 9 (Reuters) – Saudi oil giant Aramco has announced the discovery of 14 new oil and natural gas fields and reservoirs in the Eastern Region and the Empty Quarter of Saudi Arabia. The discoveries, reported by the state news agency SPA on Wednesday, contain relatively small volumes of oil and gas but are significant for the kingdom’s energy sector.
The exploration uncovered six oil fields and two reservoirs, which together produce a total of 8,126 barrels per day of Arabian oil. This oil comes in various grades, adding diversity to Saudi Arabia’s oil portfolio. Additionally, Aramco discovered natural gas reserves in two fields and four reservoirs, with a combined output of 80.5 million standard cubic feet per day (scfd) of natural gas. Associated gas from the new oil fields and reservoirs contributes another 2.11 million scfd.
Saudi Arabia remains the world’s largest oil exporter, with a daily crude production of nearly 9 million barrels in February, according to the latest data from OPEC‘s March report. This new discovery highlights Aramco’s ongoing efforts to maintain and expand the kingdom’s energy reserves. While the volumes discovered are relatively modest, they contribute to the broader strategy of enhancing Saudi Arabia’s energy capacity. The discovery also underscores Aramco’s role as a key player in the global energy market.
These findings come at a time when the kingdom is focused on maintaining its position as a leader in global oil production. The new oil and gas fields in the Eastern Region and the Empty Quarter could support the country’s long-term energy goals, boosting its production capabilities in the years to come.
