There are still many wildfires burning in Alberta, western Canada. Provincial officials warned on May 18 that more wildfires could spread in the coming days. The wildfires caused some energy companies to suspend operations, and Canada’s natural gas exports to the United States decreased accordingly, pushing up U.S. natural gas futures prices.
According to data from financial information service provider Refinitiv, Canada’s daily natural gas exports to the United States fell to 6.4 billion cubic feet (180 million cubic meters) on the 17th, the lowest in 25 months. According to Reuters, since Canadian natural gas exports fell for two weeks, U.S. natural gas futures prices rose by about 13%, and rose by about 2% on the 18th to reach a two-week high.
