“For the oil project, deep water, we are thinking of having an FPSO and then exporting the crude to the market,” the commissioner told Reuters on the sidelines of an oil conference in South Africa.
TotalEnergies and Shell have made major discoveries off Namibia in the past two years.
The super majors are currently carrying out appraisal drilling and testing to assess the volumes of oil in place and the commercial potential of the discoveries, Shino said today.
Shell made a fourth hydrocarbon discovery offshore Namibia in July 2023.
A month earlier, Zoë Yujnovich, Shell’s director of integrated gas and upstream, said at Shell’s Capital Markets Day that the supermajor would continue its exploration efforts after making three discoveries in the Orange Basin off the coast of Namibia in the past two years.
“What we’re most pleased about in Namibia is that so far out of the three exploration wells and the one appraisal well that we’ve drilled, we’ve had top quartile well performance in every single one of our operations in Namibia,” Yujnovich said.
Shell, QatarEnergy and Namibian state oil company NAMCOR discovered light oil in a deepwater exploration well earlier this year.
